We have been off on our travels again and this time we were back at The XXII ISPIM Conference – Sustainability in Innovation: Innovation Management Challenges in Hamburg hosted by Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

To ease us into the next few days of discussions and presentations we were invited to attend the cocktail reception on Sunday at Hamburg & Germania Rowing Club on the Outer Alster Lake, lucky for us the weather decided to be kind so it was an excellent setting to say hello to old faces and make some new acquaintances.

The main conference opened on the Monday with key note speaker Magnus Karlsson, Director, New Business Development & Innovation from Ericsson on implementing collaborative idea management within the organisation, then we heard from Dr Vinay Aggarwal of Deutsche Telekom Labs on the challenges and solutions in Innovation Management for Sustainability. Throughout the 3 days, we heard insight on sustainability in innovation, innovation management methods, knowledge and collaboration and innovation from academia.
Once again ISPIM brought together the leading minds on innovation management in an excellent setting and also made sure when it came to entertainment we were dazzled by dinners at the Parlament Grundsteinkeller in Hamburg City Hall and a fantastic cruise down the River Elbe aboard the replica steamboat “MS Lousiana Star”!

There is an abundance of untapped creativity and potential innovation inside every employee. These are people close to the company’s customers, suppliers and partners. These employees have an experience base within and outside the firm itself. They are exposed to a wide range of stimuli in their daily life from their families to their daily commute to work. Although employees are paid to work, it is often forgotten that they will willingly think for free. They become a cheap source of insight.
